Hello Everyone:

The WBHSM has just entered its 22nd year and we find our selves reflecting on things changing for the Museum and around us. We continue to focus on our mission of preserving African American history in Wisconsin, but with the struggling economic times this becomes increasing more difficult. As the Executive Director and Founder of this great museum I have learned the community development and partnerships are one of the ways we have been a sustainable institution.

2009 began on a good note, I witnessed the inauguration of this nation’s first African American President, celebrated Black History Month with an increased number of tours and presentations, opened a exhibited from UW- Oshkosh called Black Thursday, took a group of Messmer High school students to Springfield IL to visit the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (in conjunction with Lincoln’s Bicentennial), and so much more but they are too numerous to mention. But in saying all that, I challenge you as friends and members of the WBHSM to volunteer a few hours with us our assist us on a project. This institution belongs to this community and its is my responsibility as well as yours to keep it here.

As always, we are deeply grateful for generous support that you and many others have given to this great institution. I look forward to hearing from all of you.
